5 Easy Tips to Help Your Prostate

5 Easy Tips to Help Your Prostate

The prostate is a small gland, roughly the size of a walnut, which is located above the pubic bone in men.

The prostate is prone to a number of conditions and diseases including:

  • benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH);
  • chronic inflammation (Prostatitis); and
  • prostate cancer.

Many men, especially those over the age of fifty, are affected in some way by prostate enlargement, often altering their quality of life and sexual function. Symptoms of prostate disease do not always present (meaning, you might not always see/feel them), but may include:

  • frequent urination;
  • an inability or reduced ability to urinate;
  • pain or burning during urination;
  • pelvic discomfort;
  • pain between the scrotum and rectum;
  • fever;
  • blood in the urine;
  • pain after ejaculation; and
  • impotence.

Fortunately there is much that can be done to protect and support the health of the prostate! Keep reading for great tips.

1. Focus on healthy fats.

Studies show that animal and trans fats increase the risk for developing prostate cancer. Instead, increase your intake of healthy omega-rich fats found in many foods and supplements including wild cold water fish, Pure Premium Fish Oil, walnuts, and chia seeds.

2. Eat your veggies.

Fresh and colourful vegetables are rich in antioxidants and micronutrients that protect against cancers and support overall prostate health.

3. Enjoy three Brazil nuts a day.

Brazil nuts are rich in selenium, a mineral and powerful antioxidant, shown to reduce the incidence of prostate cancer. Try making some of our Homemade Brazil Nut Milk to help get in your daily recommended selenium!

4. Fall in love with lycopene.

Lycopene is the potent antioxidant that gives tomatoes and other bright red fruits and vegetables their beautiful colour. Enjoying one serving of cooked tomatoes a day will help protect against prostate cancer, reduce discomfort, and improve your urinary function.

5. Supplement with Saw Palmetto.

Harvested from small palm trees, this supplement may reduce symptoms of BPH including inflammation and nocturia (needing to wake up at night to pass urine). Natural Factor's Saw Palmetto and Lycopene combination is a standardized 160 mg dosage that has been clinically proven to support healthy prostate function. A perfect choice for men wanting powerful prostate protection!
