Surviving the BBQ Season

Surviving the BBQ Season

It’s just about here! Those hot sunny days made for family BBQ’s and pool parties are just around the corner. I know how hard it can be to avoid the temptation of all the goodies that come with these events, so that’s why I put together these tips for summer survival! Here’s how you can stay healthy and energized all summer long.

Tip 1: Drink water between meals

We always emphasize the importance of hydration, especially in the summer months when it’s warmer and we tend to be more active. But this isn’t only to keep you hydrated, drinking a sufficient amount of water helps to regulate your appetite. Often we confuse thirst for hunger when we’re not properly hydrated. By drinking water between your meals you won't feel the need to overeat those delicious chips and dip.

Tip 2: Bring your favourite healthy dish to the family summer BBQ

It’s easy to feast on those creamy potato salads, burgers, pizza and snack foods, so make sure there’s something on your plate that you know is supporting your health. Offset all those starchy carbs with some greens and guaranteed you’ll feel lighter and more energized after your meal.

Tip 3: Don’t forget your supplements

Digestive enzymes can be a life-saver when you’ve overindulged or maybe had a piece of pizza you thought was gluten free and… wasn’t! When you’re at events where you’re unsure of ingredients in the dishes, MegaZyme Pro helps to break down inflammatory foods reducing your negative reaction. Plus, it aids in the overall digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats for optimal nutrient absorption.

Tip 4: Stop stressing out

Remember that these events don’t happen every day, so if you do indulge in one or more dishes that you normally wouldn’t, don’t beat yourself up about it. When your body perceives stress the first thing it does it shut down your digestive system, which is the last thing we want to do when we’ve eaten something a bit hard on the gut. Take a deep breath to lower that stress and move on with your day!

Tip 5: Amp up the avocado

It’s rich in healthy fats and fibre to help control our hunger hormones. Avocado is a great alternative to dips, spreads, sauces and creamy popsicles! Don’t believe us? Try it yourself with some of these easy recipes.
