Buffered Vitamin C is a factor in the normal development and maintenance of bones, cartilage, teeth and gums. Calcium Ascorbate is another name for vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which has been buffered by a specific quantity of the mineral calcium. Combining ascorbic acid with calcium produces a supplement that is less acidic and therefore easier on the digestive tract. This allows for the use of higher doses without side effects such as diarrhea, rashes and stomach aches that may occur in sensitive individuals taking pure vitamin C. Powdered form so it is easy to add to smoothies.
Taking Buffered Vitamin C daily promotes alkalinity in the body. The Standard American Diet, comprising highly acidic foods like meat, processed items, and simple sugars, can be counteracted by calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which help reduce acidity and support overall well-being.
Vitamin C is present in various vegetables and fruits. However, cooking and extended storage can diminish their vitamin C content. Moreover, contemporary agricultural practices deplete nutrients in the soil, leading to reduced vitamin C levels in fruits and vegetables. Consequently, taking a high-quality vitamin C supplement becomes essential when daily access to fresh, organic produce from local growers is not feasible.
Who Benefits from Buffered Vitamin C? Individuals with bleeding gums or frequent colds and infections may not be getting enough vitamin C to suit their needs. Physical and mental stressors, such as inadequate sleep, excessive or intensive exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption, and a diet low in fresh fruits and vegetables will increase daily requirements. Oral contraceptive users as well as pre and post surgery patients may maintain vitamin C status with supplementation.
